"You must do the thing you think you cannot do."
Imagine living between the west coast of the Bering Sea and the east coast of the Sea of Okhosk. You are on the Kamchatka Peninsula - part of the pacific 'Ring of Fire,' this land is replete with 160 volcanoes (30 of them active), muddy cauldrons and fumeroles, hot springs and geysers. Crystal clear rivers run through it. The world's largest population of grizzly bears walk its fields, and half the world's population of Steller Eagles fly over the two mountain ranges the split it down the middle. It is truly a land that encourages belief in the power of the earth, sky and waters. Their spirits lived in the rocks, waterfalls and ancient dwellings. It is amidst this spiritual setting, in an excavation of the 3000-year old dwelling of a "Nunalik" ["Keeper of the Place" {Yupik language}], was found an arrowhead-shaped Talisman of Fossil Ivory and base metal. The metal was inscribed with with rays of the sun. It was probably made to help the Nunalik thread his way safely amongst the spirits in his daily life. It is the design this ancient artifact on which we based our Smoking Coast Talisman.

We riveted a plate of Sterling Silver or 14 KT Gold [your choice] hand-chased with a 'sun and ray' pattern to the gently curved front of our shaped Fossil Ivory, added one of our beautiful opals to become the sun, and affixed a twisted bail to retain a primitive look. 1 3/4 inches long, 5/8 inch wide. Shown in Sterling Silver with Fossil Walrus Ivory - Crystalline Grey With Some Black Border.

Sterling Silver - Complete with Sterling Silver chain.

14KT Solid Gold - Complete with gold-filled chain.

Fossil Ivory Color Charts

Below are the available colors of our fossil ivories. Our high quality fossilized ivories have been reclaimed from the ground after sharing the earth for up to 30 millennia! Even after all this time, Fossil Ivory remains warm and sensuous organic ivory; it is not petrified. It has developed its beautiful colors by taking up minerals from the earth and these colors are impossible to match in any contemporary ivories by modern processes.
