This is a guaranteed real Sperm Whale tooth that is registered with the Department of Commerce as number 21-0231-0005. It weighs 184.6 grams.

This classically shaped horizontal tooth is 5 1/4 inches long along the curve, and 1 5/8 inches wide at the center. A carefully-etched story of the lost love between a mermaid and an unknown sailor is shown on the front surface in a light color wash. The light-haired nude mermaid is shown sitting, crying on a rock, while her lover's ship sails away. (Just click on the picture for a larger view.) She is done in a combination of stippled and line techniques.
