A portrait of the lovely and distinctive American bark C. D. Bryant is meticulously scrimshawed on the front surface of this wonderful right-handed Sperm Whale's tooth. The 929 ton C. D. Bryant was built by M. Dutch at Searsport, Maine 1878. She went directly to San Francisco and served the west coast lumber trade after coming off the ways.

This classic Sperm Whale's Tooth measures 5 1/4 inches around the convex side from tip-to-base, is 1 3/4 inches wide at its base, and shows just a little curvature. On the front side is depicted a portrait of the C. D. Bryant. On the back side is etched "Bark C. D. Bryant 1878. (Please click on pictures to enlarge.) A beautiful American ship's portrait by an American scrimshander - A great gift for any discriminating collector.
