"...the universe has continued to deal exclusively in extravagances, flinging intricacies and colossi down aeons of emptiness, heaping profusions on profligacies with fresh vigor. The whole show has been on fire since the word go!"
While searching the beaches off the southeast side of Nunivak Island, where the sand dunes end, [Tan'gurr'am Penguiof = children's sand dunes] we found a broken and beached piece of Fossil Walrus Ivory that had a two small indentations opposite its flat side. [Nunivak Island is north of the Arctic Circle in the Bering Sea.] We knew when we picked it up that it had once been part of one of the most revered and important of all spirit pieces kept on the person of a hunter. It was part of a life sustaining Fire Starting kit. Originally, this piece of walrus ivory rested against the ground while the hunter rotated a pointed stick against it until the few hairs or a little dried moss held against the point began to smoke and finally catch fire. Indentations in the ivory were worn by the countless times the hunter made his fires. Because the Fire Starting kits were so important, they were among the most revered of personal amulets. The ivory chosen for them had special spiritual meaning. (They scoured the beaches to find the most potent ivory.)

On your Firestarter Bracelet you will look into its Ivory "window" and and see for yourself why this type of Fossil Ivory was believed to have its own very potent spirits that help sustain life through adverse conditions.

The broken piece of Fossil Walrus Ivory collected in 1971 was completely blackened by the elements, and gave no hint of the colors of the inner ivory. When we cut into it, we were astonished to find that the cross-sectional cuts show many different and beautiful natural pictures and striping.

Our Firestarter Bracelet is made from the ivory of this powerful Firestarter, which was a very important Amulet for Shamans. It will remain a conversation piece forever. Two Sterling Silver bands are joined at their ends, along with a middle band of beaded Silver. Fully backed and bezeled. The Fossil Walrus Ivory is 1 1/8 inches in length.

Of course, designed and handcrafted by us in our studio.

Please measure completely around your wrist at the location it will be worn.
